Madeleine Stewart - Fiddle
Madeleine Stewart is a fiddler whose music is rooted in the eclectic traditions of New England. She moved from New Hampshire in 2014 to study traditional music at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. In addition to Routes, she plays with folk-fusion band Eriska, and Rory Matheson and Craig Baxter in the Madeleine Stewart Trio. While Eriska explores the wide range of influences and musical tendencies of each of its individual members, the trio is grounded by Madeleine’s own tunes and style.
Before coming to Scotland, Madeleine received tuition at the Concord Community Music School and was awarded an apprenticeship with fiddle player Lissa Schneckenburger from the New Hampshire Council for the Arts, through which she played at the Capitol Center for the Arts in Concord and the Boston Celtic Music Festival. Since moving to Scotland, she has played in numerous places around the world, including Glasgow’s Celtic Connections and Celtic Colours in Canada. Eriska recently toured Scotland following the release of their debut album, At the Wrong Gig. She also played with Christy Scott and appeared on her EP, Amarinthine.
